| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
|
| - The life and death of van Gogh is depicted in the ground-breaking and vibrant Loving Vincent. Animated entirely with oil paintings (nearly 65,000 of them!), this one of a kind film attempts to solve the mystery of the great Dutch artist’s untimely death in 1890. Robert Horton of Seattle Weekly says "there is something psychedelically exciting about seeing the action unfold, so wild are the colors and designs."
- The Florida Project is the beautiful and touching new film from writer/director Sean Baker (Tangerine). This sun-drenched capsule of childhood follows the exploits of 6 year old Moonee (a breakout Brooklynn Prince) during a summer at a run-down motor lodge in the shadow of Orlando's Magic Kingdom. Willem Dafoe puts in an award-worthy performance as the gentle motel manager who anchors the lives of the staff and guests. A.O. Scott of the NY Times gives it the Critic's Pick seal of approval, saying, "To balance joy and desperation as gracefully as Mr. Baker does - to interweave giddiness and heartbreak - is no easy feat."
Be sure to pay close attention to the coming week’s schedule of showtimes, because squeezing a 10 day film festival into our space means there will be SOME changes to the regular schedule! |

Ithaca Fantastik (IF) will unleash its sixth annual film festival Nov. 3–12 at Cinemapolis and all around downtown Ithaca. With 37 films from 20 countries, the IF team promises this year’s festival will be a Fantastik ride—so buckle up! In addition to two weekends of curated horror, fantasy, sci-fi, bizarre, and fun-as-hell films, there’s also this year's retrospective, ITALIANO PSICHEDELIKO, which captures late 60s to late 70s Italy in all its erotic explosiveness with the visual sparkle of pop art. |
