| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| October gets underway with TWO new openers arriving on Friday:
- Ian McEwan adapts his own novel for the timely legal drama, The Children Act. Emma Thompson stars as a British family court judge faced with a decision to allow a young man's religious exemption from receiving life saving medical treatment. Peter Debruge of Variety calls it "that rarest of things: an adult drama, written and interpreted with a sensitivity to mature human concerns."
- Eugene Jarecki's award-winning documentary The King finally rolls onto our screens for a limited engagement. The film chronicles Jarecki's cross-country trip in Elvis Presley's 1963 Rolls-Royce as he connects the legacy of "The King" to the current state of affairs in the nation. David Ehrlich of Indiewire calls it "A documentary as sprawling and brilliant and flawed as the country it traverses...a fascinatingly overstuffed portrait of America in decline."
We've got these new movies PLUS some special screenings on the way, including one TONIGHT: |

Each fall during Latinx Heritage Month, film lovers of all ages gather in Ithaca for upstate New York’s premiere Latin American film festival. 2018 marks the fifth annual celebration of Latin American filmmakers from all over the continent, and this year's selection includes critically-acclaimed and award-winning films from seven different countries. Some are brand new, some are from a few years ago, and all of them provide a different glimpse into life throughout Latin America.
The festival continues this week with TWO screenings at Cinemapolis: Esteban (Cuba) - Tuesday, Oct 2 at 7 pm |

Ithaca’s Olive Branch Film Series is once again programming select screenings at Cinemapolis. The group brings cinema by, from and about Palestine to the Ithaca community to promote exploration and discussion of the complexities of Palestinian life, at home and in exile.
The October series gets underway on Wednesday at 7 pm with Killing Gaza, a film from journalists Max Blumenthal and Dan Cohen documenting Israel’s 2014 assault on Gaza. |
