| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
Next week, we head towards the end of October with five nights of special events and two new films: - Academy Award winners Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford star as another set of "big names" in Truth, the real-life recounting of the "Memogate" scandal that put an end to the career of Dan Rather. The film is based on the book by CBS News Producer Mary Mapes, a role fully embodied by Blanchett. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she "gives this dynamo of intelligence and doggedness a real human dimension that allows the propulsive drama to breathe; it's another stellar performance that rates among her best."
- Also coming this week is Meet the Patels, a comedy/documentary that was the darling of festivals in LA and Traverse City, as well as Canada's famed Hot Docs fest. This family affair follows co-director Ravi Patel, a 30 year old Indian American, as he enlists his family in his search for a life mate. The result is what Kenneth Turan of the LA Times calls, "a lively and engaging universal story made with an unmistakable sense of fun" that makes "keen points about love, marriage, family and the unexpected complications that American freedoms can bring to immigrant lives."

| A week of special event screenings begins on Friday, October 30th at 7 pm, as we join with Sustainable Tompkins to cap off their "Seal the Cracks" campaign with the Ithaca Premiere of This Changes Everything. Don't miss this one night only chance to see the film based on Naomi Klein’s 2014 best-selling book of the same name. Shot over 211 shoot days in nine countries and five continents, it is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change. A community talk-back will follow the screening. |
| Filmmaker Blake Cortright will be on hand on Saturday, October 31st at 2:30 pm for the screening of his beautiful new documentary, The 46ers. In New York's Adirondack State Park, 46 mountains rise over 4,000 feet in elevation-these are known as the "High Peaks." The men and women who successfully reach the summits of all 46 peaks are known as the "46ers." Hear their stories and marvel at the wonders in our own backyard at this one day only screening. GET TICKETS soon - they're selling fast!

| Then, on Wednesday, November 4th at 7 pm, we present a one-night only screening of Natalie Merchant's new film memoir, Paradise is There. Twenty years ago Merchant recorded her first solo album - 'Tigerlily' - which sold five million copies and launched her post-10,000 Maniacs career. Last summer Natalie re-recorded the 11 songs and made this accompanying film. Natalie's entire musical life is encapsulated in this very personal film, which digs deep into the music through live performances, archival footage, and interviews. |
