| | SCHEDULE OF SHOWTIMES OCT 25 - OCT 31 ALL SHOWTIMES BELOW VALID BEGINNING FRI, OCTOBER 25 |
| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans: |
| We're adding three new titles for a packed house of EIGHT films beginning this Friday, so pay close attention to the changes to the schedule: - Writer/director Robert Eggers' sophomore feature, The Lighthouse, was a smash the Cannes and Toronto film festivals. John Bleasdale of CineVue says "Eggers has created a film of disturbing horror, absurdist comedy and probing psychodrama which defies the generic boundaries as it breaks through them. The Lighthouse is a saltwater gothic masterpiece"
- From opening the gates of consciousness to saving the planet, the many roles of mushrooms are explored in the gorgeously photographed Fantastic Fungi. Documentarian Louie Schwartzberg takes us on a mycological journey that Matt Fagerholm of RogerEbert.com says "proves to be one of the year’s most mind-blowing, soul-cleansing and yes, immensely entertaining triumphs."
- Here for a special ONE WEEK ONLY limited engagement, Dolemite is My Name has Oscar prognosticators buzzing about Eddie Murphy's fantastic portrayal of Rudy Ray Moore. Variety's Owen Gleiberman calls it "A total motherf—kin’ blast. ... You might have to go all the way back to the ’80s to find a Murphy performance driven by this much pleasurable funky verve."
There's also a pack of special event screenings on the way, including a Silent Movie Month screening THIS WEDNESDAY night: |
| |
October is Silent Movie Month in Ithaca! To celebrate, we're once again partnering with the Wharton Studio Museum for a special one-night only screening.
Pamela B. Green’s energetic film about pioneer filmmaker Alice Guy-Blaché is both a tribute and a detective story, tracing the circumstances by which this extraordinary artist faded from memory and the path toward her reclamation. The screening will be followed by a Skype Q & A with director Pamela Green.
|
| | Our Friends from Ithaca Fantastik are switching it up this fall with a series of special Saturday night screenings that will transport you through the decades for some truly unique genre hits. It continues with the hilariously shlocky 1986 sci-fi/horror hybrid, Chopping Mall! Gloriously restored on the big screen for ONE NIGHT ONLY - Saturday, October 26 at 9:30! |
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool. It has its last screenings THIS Thursday, October 24th.
