| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
In addition to THREE new openers this weekend, the coming week includes a number of special event screenings: - The true story of historian Deborah Lipstadt's public battle with Holocaust denier David Irving comes to the screen in Denial, a hit at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. Rex Reed of the NY Observer says, "Another illuminating performance by Rachel Weisz and a brilliant screenplay by the distinguished British playwright David Hare make Denial one of the most powerful and riveting courtroom dramas ever made."
- For her fourth feature, English writer/director Andrea Arnold comes across the pond for the lush and languid American Honey. A hit at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the film follows a group of lost teens mis-spending their youth on a road-trip across the Midwest. Variety's Guy Lodge says "it's constantly, engrossingly active, spinning and sparking and exploding in cycles like a Fourth of July Catherine wheel."
- The true story of O-Ei Hokusai, daughter of daughter of 19th-century painter Katsushika Hokusai, springs to life in the beautifully animated Miss Hokusai. Based on a best-selling manga, this father-daughter tale is an extraordinary look into mentorship and the creative process. Glenn Kenny names this a NY Times Critic's Pick and says "this portrait of an artist is both enchanting and thought provoking." All matinee screenings will feature the dubbed version of the film, while evening screenings will be subtitled in English.

| | On Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30 pm, don't miss a ONE NIGHT ONLY theatrical event - OASIS: Supersonic. From the creators of the Academy Award winning hit rock-doc Amy comes this in depth look at the Gallagher Brothers' meteoric rise, dramatic break-up and attempts at a comeback.
This will only be in theaters ONE NIGHT, so catch it on the big screen!
|
| Then, on Thursday, October 20 at 6:30 pm, the week wraps up with another National Theatre Live encore. Just in time for Halloween, Danny Boyle’s acclaimed production of Frankenstein returns! Benedict Cumberbatch & Jonny Lee Miller both earned Olivier Awards for their celebrated performances alternating in the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. Due to unprecedented audience demand, Frankenstein screens again at Cinemapolis on Thursday, October 27th at 6:30 pm (Cumberbatch as Creature) and again on Saturday, October 29th at 1:30 pm (Miller as Creature).
