| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| We head towards awards season with TWO new openers on Friday:
- American auteur David Lowery (A Ghost Story, Ain't Them Bodies Saints) sets his lens on a cinema legend in The Old Man & The Gun. Based on the true story of serial bank robber and jailbreaker, Forrest Tucker, the film is a vehicle for what may be the last on-screen performance of Robert Redford—and the critics love him. Todd McCarthy of the Hollywood Reporter says "his work here is natural, subtle, ingratiating and doesn’t miss a trick."
- The "Year of the Documentary" continues with another Certified Fresh non-fiction entry. Science Fair is a charming, feel-good chronicle of the efforts of high school kids from across the country as they compete for the top prize at the International Science and Engineering Fair. Ty Burr of the Boston Globe says it's "a movie that traffics in a rare commodity: hope for the future."

This year's Ithaca Fantastik Festival is less than two weeks away, but they have one more Fantastik Friday coming before the fest gets underway.
This special EARLY installment features the documentary SLAVE TO THE GRIND.
Director Doug Brown has worked tirelessly to document an under represented genre of extreme music, interviewing members of the seminal bands, as well as todays carriers of the torch. Grindcore is the world's fastest, most aggressively intense music. Fusing the anarchistic and leftist attitudes of the UK Punk scene with the speed and drunken aggression of American Death Metal, Grindcore continues to challenge and offend most listeners.
