| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans: |
| A jam-packed October continues with two new openers: - Remarkably prolific Japanese auteur Takaski Miike was had a smash at Cannes with his latest, First Love. The wildly violent gangster comedy follows a young couple as they get embroiled in Tokyo's underworld. David Ehrlich of IndieWire says "Frequently sublime ... a piece of work so feral and full of life that you’d never guess it was (at least) the 90th feature its director has made in the last 30 years."
- Here for a special ONE WEEK ONLY engagement, Quentin Tarantino once again graces our screen with Once Upon A Time...in Hollywood. Tarantino's latest get's the Critic's Pick seal from A.O. Scott of the NY Times, who says "There is a lot of love...and quite a bit to enjoy."
There's also a load of special event screenings on the way, including the kick-off of a brand new series TONIGHT: |
| | Cinemapolis and Bike Walk Tompkins kick off a new monthly bike movie series with the Ithaca premiere of BIKES OF WRATH!
Five Australians attempt to cycle more than 1600 miles from Oklahoma to California in honor of the westward migration undertaken by ‘The Grapes of Wrath’s’ Joad family. With little money and deep conversations with strangers, the cyclists expand on the novel’s core themes of migration, inequality and the perceived land of opportunity. Add some wicked Aussie humour, wild adventures, and wonderful cinematography, and you’ve got a film that can’t be missed.
The screening will be followed by a Skype Q & A with director Charlie Turnbull. |
| | Featuring a Tony Award-winning performance from host of The Late Late Show, James Corden, the hilarious West End and Broadway hit One Man, Two Guvnors returns to cinemas to mark National Theatre Live’s 10th birthday.
Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple. |
