| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
In addition to a new opener this weekend, the coming week includes a number of special event screenings: - Kate Winslet returns to our screens in The Dressmaker. A hit at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, it follows Tilly, the titular clothier, as she returns to a tiny hometown in the outback of Australia to care for her mother and get back at the locals who did her wrong. Adam Graham of the Detroit News praises its "tonal peculiarities," saying "there's plenty to admire here, especially if your taste is tailored to the unusual."

| We're once again joining the Wharton Studio Museum in their annual celebration of Silent Movie Month! On Saturday, October 15 at 2 pm, don't miss your chance to see a collection of Buster Keaton Shorts, with a special intro by writer and radio host, Roger Kimmel Smith. We'll be showing One Week (1920), High Sign (1921), and Cops (1922). $6 general admission (kids 12 and under get in free!) |
| Looking past the weekend, on Tuesday, October 18 at 7 pm, Jennifer Mathews hosts a special screening of Death Makes Life Possible, the award-winning film produced by Marilyn Schlitz and Deepak Chopra to transform the fear of death into an inspiration for living. Mathews will facilitate a post show discussion. Jennifer’s focus is encouraging open conversations on death and dying as a way to enrich our human experience and connect to the spirit of who we are. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. A portion of proceeds goes to Hospicare.

Helen McCrory returns to the National Theatre in Terence Rattigan’s devastating masterpiece, The Deep Blue Sea. When Hester Collyer is found by her neighbours in the aftermath of a failed suicide attempt, the story of her tempestuous affair with a former RAF pilot and the breakdown of her marriage to a High Court judge begins to emerge.
