| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We're fully into the Fall awards season, and this week two more hopefuls join our slate of popular films: |
| - Fresh on the booted heels of this summer's super-heroine hit comes Professor Marston & The Wonder Women, the untold story of the creator of Wonder Woman and the relationship(s) that inspired him. Writer/director Angela Robinson (The L Word) pulls no punches in portraying the personal life of William Moulton Marston, his wife Elizabeth, and their shared partner Olive Byrne. Three powerhouse performances from Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote form the heart of this character-driven biopic. Kate Erbland of IndieWire says that "as subversive as her subject matter is, Angela Robinson couches her film in familiar trappings that help present a respectful take on a wild story."
- Another largely untold story makes its way to our screens in the form of Dolores. Following the life of labor leader and feminist Dolores Huerta, the film shines a light on the Huerta's lifetime of activism—work that until now has often been overshadowed by the work alongside Cesar Chavez. Lora Grady of the Washington Post calls it "a fascinating corrective to 50-plus years of American history. It’s...exhilarating, inspiring and deeply emotional." DON'T MISS THIS LIMTED ENGAGEMENT.
Some special screenings are on the way in the coming week, as well: |

The weekend kicks off with ANOTHER special screening from our friends at Ithaca Fantastik. This time, they're bringing hometown filmmakers Tim and Trevor Ryan back to Ithaca for a one-night only showing of their new film Welcome to Willits. Deep in the Northern California woods, in the heart of the notorious Emerald Triangle, lies a remote cabin. The residents struggle to fight off the repeated attacks and abductions by mysterious creatures that have plagued them for years. When a local pot farmer is caught up with a wayward group of campers the situation quickly escalates into total carnage.

The Ithaca Shakespeare Company and Cinemapolis continue our new film series “Shakespeare The Rest Of The Year.” These special screenings include presentations from film and theatre experts to help put the Bard’s work in a contemporary context.
The series features classic presentations of Shakespeare plays, alongside adaptations based on a Shakespeare work. The series continues on Wednesday, October 18th with the award-winning 1953 production of Julius Caesar. |
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to get in soon to catch Rebel in the Rye and The Unknown Girl. They both have their last screenings THIS Thursday, October 12th!
