Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
The run up to awards season continues this week, as we add two new films to our roster:- Driven by what Variety calls "Jeremy Renner's most complete performance since The Hurt Locker," Kill the Messenger charts the rise and tragic end of Gary Webb, the reporter that exposed the CIA's connections to Contra rebels and the U.S. cocaine trade. This gripping, true-life political thriller features a stellar supporting cast including Michael Sheen (The Queen) and Rosemarie DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married, Your Sister's Sister).
- Another real-life figure is at the heart of Tracks. Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre, Stoker) stars as Robyn Davidson, the Australian woman who trekked across 1,700 miles of the outback with only four camels and a dog in 1977. Marvelously shot in stunning wide-screen, the journey, according to the Hollywood Reporter, is "alternately haunting, inspiring and dreamily meditative." Catch this limited engagement before it's gone!

The Cine con CULTURA Film Festival concludes next week with the Ithaca premiere of the Mexican film CANTINFLAS on Tuesday, Oct 14. The special ONE NIGHT ONLY screening will be preceded by MILK AND HONEY, a short film by Ithacan Daniel Pfeffer that's been a hit at film festivals across the nation. The whole evening will be followed by a special reception to celebrate the end of Latino Heritage Month in Tompkins County.
