| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We're wrapping up September with TWO new openers on Friday: |
| - John Cho and Haley Lu Richardson star in Columbus, the debut feature from video essayist Kogonada. Set in the modernist architecture mecca of Columbus, Indiana, it follows Cho's Jin, a Korean translator, as he comes to town after his architecture historian father suddenly falls ill. He meets Richardson's Casey on a tour of the sites, and the film springboards into a study of their friendship. The Hollywood Reporter calls it "a soft-spoken and perceptive film...that announces the arrival of a new director who combines small-scale, Ozu-like humanism with an impressive command of the formalist possibilities of film."
- The young life of American literature's most famous recluse gets the biopic treatment in Rebel in the Rye. Nicholas Hoult stars as J.D. Salinger in this adaptation from writer-director (and sometimes actor) Danny Strong. Gary Goldstein of the LA Times says the film "absorbingly trace[s]" Salinger's "journey...from young wiseacre to world-celebrated author and notorious recluse." Don't miss this LIMITED ENGAGEMENT!
Some special screenings are on the way, as well, including one TONIGHT: |
|
Join in an adventure merging science, art, history and marine conservation as we seek out the living examples of the bizarre and beautiful sea creatures that were captured as glass reproductions by the Blaschka family 160 years ago.
