| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
Another busy week is on tap with three new openers, many special screenings, and, by popular demand, a continuation of the popular Beatles doc: - John Krasinski makes his directorial debut with The Hollars, a dysfunctional family dramedy that hit screens at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Krasinski does double duty, also starring as John Hollar, a New Yorker who returns to small town life to visit his sick mother. The Boston Globe's Tom Russo calls it "a film that’s unexpectedly rich with sweetly moving moments, and a revelatory performance by character actress Margo Martindale."
- Italian auteur Nanni Moretti returns to form with Mia Madre. The film follows Margherita, a filmmaker who's juggling an ex-lover, an American movie star, and a dying mother. According to Oliver Lyttelton of IndieWire, "as ever, Moretti creates a rich and incredibly detailed world, one where every character has a life that stretches far beyond their on-screen scenes." Don't miss this limited engagement.
- Our last new title is a limited engagement of the foodie documentary Ants on a Shrimp. Director Maurice Dekkers chronicles the improbable efforts of master Danish chef René Redzepi as he attempts to temporarily move his world famous restaurant Noma from Copenhagen to Tokyo. Diana Clarke of The Village Voice says, "Like a well-executed fine-dining experience, this sleek documentary entertains, delights, and makes viewers comfortable without evident sweat."

| Back from a summer hiatus, our friends from Ithaca Fantastik return for another Fantastic Film Friday. This time out, they're serving up the NY premiere of The Greasy Strangler, a grimy and gross horror comedy that was all the rage at this year's Sundance. This one will test your limits - the Guardian calls it "a welcome oasis of filth, depravity and shock in a culture that too often thinks merely being a little weird passes muster." It screens just once - Friday, September 23rd at 9:30 pm! |
| On Saturday, September 24th, we're excited to take part in the first annual Art House Theater Day. We're joining hundreds of community cinemas around the country to celebrate the legacy of independent theaters as advocates for cinema arts. Several film distributors are offering exclusive programs that you will only be able to see on Art House Theater Day:
2 pm - A TOWN CALLED PANIC: THE CHRISTMAS LOG & RETURN TO SCHOOL 4:30 pm - TIME BANDITS 7:00 pm - DANNY SAYS 9:30 pm - PHANTASM: REMASTERED find out more about each show, and your chance to get free stuff at Cinemapolis.org! |
| The Family Classics Picture Show continues its 2nd year on Sunday, September 25th at 2pm with a screening of A Night at the Opera. Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family. FCPS is made possible by lead sponsor Wells Fargo Advisors, with additional support from Mama Goose. |
