| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
The busy Fall season continues next week, with TWO new openers on Friday: |
| - Writer/director Mike White (Beatriz at Dinner, Chuck & Buck) returns to our screens with another less than sympathetic protagonist in Brad's Status. Ben Stiller stars as a father struggling with his brilliant son's impending college career while dealing with a crippling envy over the successes of his own college buddies. Justin Chang of the L.A. Times calls it "a funny, empathetic and surprisingly grounded comedy that itself defies obvious comparisons."
- Award-winning auteur Eliza Hittman again tackles teenage sexuality in Beach Rats. Newcomer Harris Dickinson stars as Frankie, a Brooklyn teen who spends his days with buds on the boardwalk and his nights cruising the web for encounters with older men. April Wolfe of LA Weekly says that "Hittman’s depictions of sexuality, emotional crisis and parent-teen relationships are rendered here without sentimentality — and with the burning urgency of a stick of dynamite with a lit fuse."
Some special screenings are on the way in the coming week, as well: |
| Tues, Sept 19 - Sun, Oct 15
