We'll add just one new film to our slate of summer winners this Friday: - Fans of her music already know how powerful she is, but the new doc from Academy Award winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple gives Miss Sharon Jones the star treatment she's always deserved. The film tells the story of Jones' rise through the lens of struggle—it picks up just after her cancer diagnosis in 2013. But, as IndieWire's Kate Erbland says, "observing the juxtaposition between pre-cancer Jones...and the still-mending Sharon is profound; Kopple resists making cheap comparisons between the two, instead opting to let the footage speak for itself."
