| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
A surprise last minute addition to our line-up means we have TWO new openers on Friday: - Combining the true story of a larger-than-life heiress with an award-winning cast, director, and screenwriter, Florence Foster Jenkins hits our screens this weekend. Meryl Streep stars in the tital role of a wealthy socialite with a terrible voice who, despite all odds, ends up performing at Carnegie Hall. She's joined by Hugh Grant in this "ridiculously watchable" film from director Stephen Frears (Philomena, The Queen). Jason Solomon of TheWrap calls it "a funny and moving film tribute to the efforts and passions of its titular heroine, a woman who lived out her dreams, at any price."
- Award-winning producer and screenwriter James Schamus (Brokeback Mountain, The Ice Storm) makes his "certified fresh" directorial debut with Indignation, the latest Philip Roth novel to be adapted for the screen. Logan Lerman (Perks of Being a Wallflower) stars alongside Sarah Gadon (Enemy) and actor/playwright Tracy Letts (Wiener-Dog, Killer Joe) in this period piece that follows a Jewish student from New Jersey as he traverses culture clashes at a Christian college in 1950s Ohio. According to David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter, the film "brings the haunting essence of the novel to the screen with delicacy and restraint, yielding emotional richness without sentimentality."
