| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
Summer rolls onward, and we're adding TWO new openers this Friday: |
| - Al Gore chronicles his continuing life's work in An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. Highlighting global efforts to react to increasingly extreme weather and Gore's own influnce in negotiating the accord at the Paris Climate Change Conference, the documentary is a NY Times Critic's Pick. The Times' Ben Kenigsberg calls Gore "one of the most compelling characters...in [the] summer movie landscape."
- The Glass Castle marks a reunion for Academy Award Winner Brie Larson (Room) and writer-director Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12). Adapted from the best-selling memoir by Jeannette Walls, it tracks Walls's unconventional upbringing by a pair of nomadic parents. Time Out NY says it "makes good on honoring the unexpected universality of even the most atypical families, embracing the crazy within them."
In addition to new movies, don't forget to catch a special live theater event on the big screen THIS Thursday and Saturday: |
|
Nominated for five 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Falsettos is a hilarious and poignant look at a modern family revolving around the life of a gay man Marvin, his wife, his lover, his soon‑to‑be‑bar‑mitzvahed son, their psychiatrist, and the lesbians next door. Lincoln Center Theater’s production stars Christian Borle, Stephanie J. Block, Andrew Rannells, and Brandon Uranowitz, all of whom received Tony nominations for their respective performances. |
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to get in soon to catch A Ghost Story. It has its last screenings THIS Thursday, August 10th!
