| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
The summer is flying by, as July finishes up with TWO new openers coming on Friday: |
| - Texas auteur David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints) returns to our screens with his beautiful and brooding contemplation of time, A Ghost Story. Academy Award winner Casey Affleck reunites with Rooney Mara as a couple inhabiting a suburban ranch that quickly becomes a haunted house...haunted by him. A.O. Scott names it a NY Times Critic's Pick, calling it "suspenseful, dourly funny and at times piercingly emotional."
- Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke star in Maudie, an unlikely romance loosely based on the real life of self-taught Canadian artist Maud Lewis. This is another NY Times Critic's Pick, with Manohla Dargis calling the two leads "a beautifully matched pair who open up two closed people, unleashing torrents of feeling."
Looking ahead to the end of next week, bring the whole family out for NEXT Thursday's special screening: |
|
All children, except one, grow up… Captured live at the National Theatre, a recorded performance of JM Barrie’s much-loved tale screens in cinemas. When Peter Pan, leader of the Lost Boys, loses his shadow, headstrong Wendy helps him to reattach it. In return, she is invited to Neverland, where Tinker Bell the fairy, Tiger Lily and the vengeful Captain Hook await. A riot of magic, music and make-believe ensues.
A delight for children and adults alike, Sally Cookson (NT Live: Jane Eyre) directs this wondrously inventive production, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic theatre.
