| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
As we careen through the middle of summer, we welcome TWO new openers this Friday to join our slate of popular films: |
| - Compared favorably to the best of Mel Brooks and Monty Python, The Little Hours is a broad, crass, irreverent comedy based loosely on the 14th century stories from Giovanni Boccaccio's The Decameron. Following the escapades of a group of less than pious nuns, it features a cast of contemporary comedy masters that includes Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie, Kate Micucci, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, and John C. Reilly. David Edelstein of New York Magazine says it's a "deliciously deadpan sex farce played by some of the deftest clowns in the English-speaking world. The more matter-of-fact it is, the more screamingly funny."
- Moka is a French thriller that features a star turn from Emmanuelle Devos (Coco Before Chanel). Devos plays Diane, a Swiss mother seeking revenge for her son, who died in a car accident. The Seattle Times calls it a "lean, taut dramatic thriller that continually offers delicate surprises as it shifts and evolves."
Some events are on the horizon in the next week, but before we get to the weekend, don't forget about THIS Thursday's special screening: |
|
In conjunction with the new exhibit, The Best Way to Prepare Bananas, exhibition curator Matt Conway will introduce this special screening of Pecker, director John Waters’s loving, knowing satire of an outsider in the art world.
The movie will be preceded by rare “Dinny the Dinosaur” videos by Robert Goodnough from the Museum’s collection not included in the exhibition.
THEN, looking toward next week... |
|
This documentary feature chronicles one remarkable woman’s struggle with early-onset Alzheimer’s, diagnosed at the young age of 52, and how her loving family and community rallied to support her in the face of her insidious disease.
This special screening is fundraiser to help support the making of the film. Food will be provided by local chef Frank Purazzi, and Jacob, the film’s director, acting as sous. Drinks will also be provided by generous local vendors.
Doors will open promptly at 6:30pm for food and drink. The film will screen starting at 7:15pm. After the screening, director Jacob Miller and Camila Faraday will be giving a talkback. This will be accompanied by coffee, tea, and a very special dessert provided by Melody Faraday.
