| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
It's the Holiday Weekend, and we've got two very different kinds on-screen fireworks coming on Friday: - A breakout at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Swiss Army Man is a wild, surreal, and sometimes gross comedy/fantasy from the demented minds of a pair of filmmakers known as "the Daniels." Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, Ruby Sparks) is Hank, an island castaway who's given up hope of escape, and Daniel Radcliffe (Kill Your Darlings, Horns, some movies about wizards) is "Manny," the dead body that washes ashore and gives him new hope for a return home. To say more would spoil the fun, but suffice to say that this weird ride has been named a NY Times Critics Pick, with Jeannette Catsoulis cheering, "Impossible to categorize, this stunningly original mix of the macabre and the magical combines comedy, tragedy, fantasy and love story into an utterly singular package that’s beholden to no rules but its own."
- For those looking for a little espionage this weekend, we have a John le Carré thriller! Our Kind of Traitor stars Ewan McGregor as a teacher unwittingly embroiled in a battle between the Russian mob and the British Secret Service. Adapted for the screen by screenwriter Hossein Amini (Drive) and helmed by Susanna White, the mystery of who to trust plays out in a metered, classic fashion, one that, according to Conner Schwerdtfeger of CinemaBlend, "seems to hearken back to a golden age of spy thriller – one where things move a little slower, and the audience can never fully get comfortable." Get ready to spend some time on the edge of your seat.

| Looking ahead to the END of next week, we have the return of National Theatre Live to our screens for the beginning of a special season of encore presentations. Featuring a Tony Award-winning performance from host of the The Late Late Show, James Corden, the uproarious One Man, Two Guvnors was a runaway hit both in London’s West End and on Broadway. A raucous farce of mistaken, stolen, and misplaced identities, One Man, Two Guvnors screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, July 7th at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, July 9th at 1:30 pm. |
| While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to catch Dheepan and Genius soon. They both leave THIS Thursday, June 30th! |
