| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
We're cleaning house this weekend, with five films leaving and THREE new openers coming on Friday: |
| - Eleanor Coppola (Hearts of Darkness) makes her fiction feature debut with the bubbly, slightly autobiographical travelogue, Paris Can Wait. Diane Lane shines in this perfect summer escape as the wife of a film producer on a spontaneous French road trip with one of his associates. Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter calls it "a chance to delight in the pleasures that humans can take from what grows in the earth and from an amiable companion’s company."
- Winner of the Palm d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, I, Daniel Blake is a timely drama of economic woe from Ken Loach (Wind that Shakes the Barley, Jimmy's Hall). Being hailed as one of Loach's finest, the film follows the struggles of titular Daniel Blake (Dave Johns), a 59 year old carpenter with a heart condition, as he fights to receive disability benefits. Variety's Owen Gleiberman calls it "a drama of tender devastation that tells its story with an unblinking neorealist simplicity."
- Writer/director/star Demetri Martin (In a World...) takes a break from standup with Dean, an unconventional comedy about grief and living after loss. With an all-star cast that includes Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen, the film was a hit at this year's Tribeca Fest. Jordan Raup of The Film Stage says that "by staying true to his offbeat brand of comedy, Martin has something compelling to say about moving on amidst — or perhaps because of — the humor of life."
As we get through the weekend and into NEXT week, there are also several special events on the way:

Our friends at Ithaca Fantastik have cooked up one more Fantastik Film Friday before going on Summer Break. This month, they're kicking off an anniversary celebration of cult hit, Donnie Darko!
Since Ithaca's very own David Moreland played the high school principal in the film, we're EXTENDING the celebration to include a full day of screenings on Saturday, as well. David will be on hand for a talkback for TWO of the five screenings: Friday at 9:30 and again on Saturday at 7:00.
Celebrate 15 years of Donnie Darko and see this cult classic on the BIG SCREEN!

The Family Classics Picture Show continues its 3rd year on Sunday, June 18th at 2pm with a screening of Way Out West. Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family.
FCPS is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose.

Indivisible is an award-winning documentary about the fight to reunite families separated by deportation. Renata, Evelyn, and Antonio were young children when their parents brought them to the U.S. in search of a better life; they were teenagers when their families were deported.
Today, they are known as Dreamers. Indivisible takes place at a pivotal moment in their lives, as they fight for a pathway to citizenship and a chance to be reunited with their loved ones. With the future of immigration reform uncertain, will they see their families again?
