| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
Another early summer weekend is on the way with TWO new openers on Friday, and some special events in the coming week: |
| - Writer-director Roger Michell (Le Week-End) adapts a classic Daphne Du Maurier novel in the period thriller, My Cousin Rachel. Academy Award winner Rachel Wiesz stars as the mysterious cousin, who arrives in 1800s Cornwall to claim the estate of her recently deceased (and only slight less recently wed) husband. A classic gothic mystery unfolds, and Screen Daily gives all the credit to Weisz, saying she "shows her Oscar-winning talents by hitting precisely the right notes throughout...from warmth to guile to chilly practicality."
- Danish auteur Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt, Far from the Madding Crowd) returns to our screens—and to his homeland—with The Commune. This semi-autobiographical look at 1970s Denmark offers a star turn for frequent collaborator Trine Dyrholm, who the Minneapolis Star Tribune says "gives the kind of wrenching performance that would have inspired Ingmar Bergman to adopt her as his muse."
As we get through the weekend and into NEXT week, there are also several special events on the way:
Daniel Radcliffe, Joshua McGuire, and David Haig star in Tom Stoppard’s brilliantly funny situation comedy, broadcast live from The Old Vic theatre in London. David Leveaux’s new production marks the 50th anniversary of the play that made a young Tom Stoppard’s name overnight.
From Funimation, the group that brought us the record-breaking anime Your Name, comes a ONE NIGHT ONLY screening of another hit Japanese animated film!
