| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
We head into the holiday weekend with TWO new openers on Friday: |
| - Debra Winger and Tracy Letts star in Azazel Jacobs's touching dramedy, The Lovers. Playing a mutually unfaithful couple plodding towards divorce, the pair suddenly find themselves unexpectedly in a romance with each other. The resulting journey follows the two-timing spouses through a light comedy with some real emotional depth. Justin Chang of the L.A. Times calls it an "achingly poignant portrait of a modern marriage."
- Based on the the real-life inspiration for the film Rocky, Liev Schreiber stars in Chuck. Canadian director Phillipe Falardeau brings the life of Chuck Wepner to the screen in this shaggy dog story of a New Jersey liquor salesman who once spent 15 rounds in the ring with Muhammad Ali. Not a typical boxing movie, most of the action takes place out of the ring, with a stellar cast that includes Elizabeth Moss, Naomi Watts and Ron Perlman. They all put in great performances, but The Guardian calls Schreiber's "a knockout."
Before we get to the weekend, don't forget that we're ALSO presenting a VERY special event THIS THURSDAY, MAY 25th:
|
| ONE DAY ONLY CINEMA EVENT
The tale of the Grateful Dead is inspiring, complicated, and downright messy. A tribe of contrarians, they made art out of open-ended chaos and inadvertently achieved success on their own terms. Never-before-seen footage and interviews offer this unprecedented and unvarnished look at the life of the Dead.
|
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch The Last Shaman and Their Finest. They all play their last shows THIS Thursday, May 25th! |
