| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
More new films and special events are on their way in the coming week: - We kick off the weekend with the directorial debut from novelist, former US Congressman, and fellow Ithacan, Robert Mrazek. The Congressman follows Charlie Winship, the titular legislator, as he struggles to overcome a media hailstorm after failing to recite the pledge of allegiance. Mrazek lends his insider's perspective to this very funny and timely new drama, AND the director himself will be on hand for a special post-show Q & A after the 7:15 screening on Friday night! Don't miss it!
- Jason Bateman pulls double-duty in front of and behind the camera in The Family Fang. Based on Kevin Wilson's best-selling novel about a family of performance artists, this odd and touching comedy features an amazing cast that includes Bateman, Nicole Kidman, and Christopher Walken. David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter praises the cast and the script (by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abair) saying it "thumbs its nose at the cliches of the over-trafficked dysfunctional family genre to dissect the sometimes lifelong quest of children to understand their parents in ways that are funny and bittersweet, poignant and often bracingly dark."
- Rounding out the new openers on Friday is the return of indie auteur Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud) to our screens. Don't miss this special one week engagement of Midnight Special, Nichols' homage to late 70's Spielbergian sci-fi. He once again partners with Michael Shannon to tell the story of a father on the run with a son who has some uncommon abilities. To give away too much would spoil the reveal, but The Hollywood Reporter says the film "confirms Nichols' uncommon knack for breathing dramatic integrity and emotional depth into genre material."

| As you probably already know, Cinemapolis is a non-profit arts organization that depends on the support of our membership to realize our vision of a community cultural institution where the art of film is used to enrich people's lives, grapple with and illuminate contemporary issues, and, of course, to entertain.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, we're once again taking part in Giving Is Gorges, the annual county-wide day of giving. I hope you'll consider making a gift and being part of this unique opportunity to highlight how we can work together to share commitments and build a stronger sense of community. |
| Looking ahead to the end of next week, Thursday marks the return of National Theatre Live with a smash hit comedy from Martin McDonagh, Hangmen.
In his small pub in the northern English town of Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what's the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they've abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and pub regulars dying to hear Harry's reaction to the news, his old assistant Syd and the peculiar Mooney lurk with very different motives for their visit.
