| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
We're wrapping up April with THREE new films coming on Friday: |
| - Writer/Director Nacho Vigalondo mashes up genres in the indie-comedy/monster-movie hybrid, Colossal. Anne Hathaway stars as a down-on-her-luck unemployed writer who returns to her small town to escape a failed relationship in the big city. She might ALSO be somehow connected to a giant reptilian creature that's terrorizing Seoul. As Tom Huddleston of Time Out London says, "you won't have seen a movie like 'Colossal' before, and you won't again."
- Danish director Lone Scherfig (An Education) transports us to the British homefront with the WWII-era comedy, Their Finest. Adapted from a novel by Lissa Evans, the film follows Catrin (Gemma Arterton), an ad copywriter who's thrust into the war effort when she's recruited as a screenwriter for propaganda films. Manohla Dargis of the NY Times gives it the Critic's Pick seal of approval, saying it's "too understandably serious to be called a romp, yet it has a buoyancy that lifts you."
- Also this week, we welcome back local filmmakers Robert Lieberman and Deborah Hoard for a special limited engagement of their latest documentary, Angkor Awakens: A Portrait of Cambodia. The film is getting a wide national release in May, and we're celebrating with a week of screenings here at Cinemapolis. The celebration kicks off with TWO special filmmaker appearances: Friday, April 28 at 7 pm and again on Saturday, April 29 at 2 pm. Leiberman and Hoard will be present at both for a post-show discussion. The film screens daily for the rest of the week, leading up to its NYC premiere. Don't miss it!

| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch After the Storm, Frantz, and Land of Mine. They all play their last shows THIS Thursday, April 27th. |
