| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
Spring is in full swing in Ithaca, and it brings a trio of new openers this Friday: - Leading the charge is Everybody Wants Some!!, Richard Linklater's "spiritual sequel" to his career-launching indie opus, Dazed and Confused. Picking up thematically where that film left off, this chapter delves into college life in the 80s and cements Linklater's reign as the king of the hangout movie. He's once again assembled an ensemble cast of soon-to-be-stars as they stumble through new rites of passage, marking their path with clever, insightful dialogue. Variety's Justin Chang gushes: "Few filmmakers have so fully embraced the bittersweet joy of living in the moment - one that's all the more glorious because it fades so soon."
- Miles Ahead is Don Cheadle's unconventional biopic of jazz master, Miles Davis. Cheadle co-wrote, directs, and stars in a film that bounces through time periods and captures the essence, if not always the facts, of the enigmatic horn player's life. Manohla Dargis of the NY Times calls it an "impressionistic take on Miles Davis" and applauds Cheadle's ability to eschew the typical biopic mode of "the bittersweet hagiographic." Add a killer cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Michael Stuhlbarg and Emayatzy Corinealdi, and you've got a can't-miss movie with a heart of jazz.
- Finally, a special limited engagement of City of Gold begins on Friday as well. The documentary is equal parts love letter to L.A., testament to the power of criticism, and life story of Jonathan Gold, the only food critic to ever win a Pulitzer Prize. Writing for the L.A. Times for decades, Gold has become renowned for profiling the city's myriad of ethnic eateries, from hole-in-the-wall take-out to fine-dining establishments. A.O. Scott of the NY Times praises Gold's ability to find "intimations of perfection — meals, dishes, single bites that sustain his faith in Los Angeles and, by implication, in humanity." For Scott, the film "is a lovely testament to that faith, worth attending to even if you think you have no interest in food, California or criticism."

| Also on Friday, we welcome back our friends from Ithaca Fantastik for the latest installment of their Fantastik Film Friday series. The Interior is the feature debut from writer/director Trevor Juras. It follows James, a listless young man, that learns he is ill and leaves his job, girlfriend and city behind, venturing alone into the British Columbia interior, bringing his fears and anxieties with him. This slow-burn horror film was a hit at the 2015 Fantasia fest, and you have ONE CHANCE to see it - Friday, April 22 at 9:30. Don't miss out!
