| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
Our first full week in April brings THREE new openers, including one surprise addition: |
| - Danny Boyle returns to our screens and returns to Scotland to revisit the lives of the hooligans and drug addicts that brought him cinematic success two decades ago. T2 Trainspotting follows Mark (Ewan McGregor), as he reunites with old friends and tries to make amends for (spoiler alert) running off with the loot from the big drug deal at the end of the last movie. Jeannette Catsoulis of the NY Times gives it the Critic's Choice stamp of approval, saying that "while 'T2' might be middle-aged, it’s very far from moribund, the despondent base notes shouldering a story of revenge and regret, amity and acceptance."
- Japan's number one film from 2016 has finally made it stateside. The beautifully crafted anime fantasy Your Name tracks two strangers who randomly—and inexplicably—switch bodies after a celestial event. As they try to find one another across great distances, fate continues to throw obstacles in their way. Cath Clarke of Time Out London says simply: "What a thing of beauty this film is."
9:30 screenings of Your Name will feature English subtitles. All other screenings will be dubbed in English.
- And finally this week, we get the latest from master American auteur, Terrence Malick. With Song to Song, Malick has assembled another remarkable ensemble cast that includes Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett and more. Unfolding a puzzle of intertwining story lines that feature love, loss, and infidelity, Manohla Dargis of the NY Times calls it "a film to see."
Also in the coming week, we welcome a few special event screenings: |

Our friends from the Ithaca Fantastik festival are back with their monthly installment of genre fun from around the globe. For April, they're serving up The Void.
Combine cultists, medical experiments, and tentacled monsters from another realm, and you get what Time Out London calls a "gloriously unfettered throwback to the wild days of ’80s horror."

Golden Globe winner Ruth Wilson stars in the title role of Patrick Marber’s new version of Hedda Gabler. Hedda and Tesman have just returned from their honeymoon and the relationship is already in trouble.
