| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
In addition to a BIG weekend of FLEFF ahead, we're also opening two new films on Friday: - The grand-daddy of contemporary country music gets the biopic treatment in I Saw the Light. Tom Hiddleston stars as Hank Williams in this chronicle of the crooner's life and career. Together with Elizabeth Olsen as Williams' first wife, the two carry the film with a pair of unforgettable performances. According to Chris Bumbray of JoBlo.com, "Hiddleston gives the performance of his life in his uncanny portrayal of the complex Williams."
- Helen Mirren and the late Alan Rickman star in the timely war-time thriller, Eye in the Sky. Mirren plays Col. Katherine Powell, the leader of a drone-based British military operation to capture terrorists. As innocent targets enter a potential "kill zone," a tense interplay between soldiers, pilots, and civilian leadership unfolds. It's morally murky territory that is all too real, and, according to Colin Covert of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "In an era of loud, ugly and fragmented war films, [Eye in the Sky] creates a movie far more thoughtful and challenging than we expect."

This year's theme is "Landscapes," and you'll find common threads winding through all 100 events of the week-long fest. The full schedule of Cinemapolis films can be found on the FLEFF website.
TAKE NOTE - some of our regular screenings will be pre-empted during FLEFF, so please read our schedule carefully! |
