| | SCHEDULE OF SHOWTIMES MAR 31 - APR 6 ALL SHOWTIMES BELOW VALID BEGINNING FRI, MAR 31 |
| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
The first inklings of Spring are here, and with them come TWO new openers on Friday: |
| - Local author Diane Ackerman's acclaimed international best seller, The Zookeeper's Wife is now a major motion picture. We're excited to be hosting the Ithaca premiere of the film this week, and to celebrate, the author herself will be present at the very first screening on Friday, March 31 at 4:15. Ackerman will take part in a brief talk-back after the show and will be signing books in the lobby, with the help of our friends at Buffalo Street Books!
|
| - Olivier Assayas (Clouds of Sils Maria) re-teams with Kristen Stewart for our second new film this weekend. Personal Shopper is a Hitchcockian thriller/mystery that follows an American in Paris as she investigates what could be a haunting from her recently deceased twin brother. A.O. Scott of the New York Times gives it the Critic's Pick stamp of approval, calling Personal Shopper "sleek and spooky, seductive and suspenseful."
Also in the coming week, we welcome a few special event screenings: |
| |
We're testing the endurance of comedy-lovers this April First. The Fool’s Day Flicks Marathon is a day-long event featuring films of and about some of our favorite comedians.
|
|
On April 4, we join over 180 art house cinemas across the country to participate in a NATIONAL EVENT DAY screening of 1984 starring John Hurt.
The date was chosen because it's the day George Orwell's protagonist Winston Smith begins rebelling against his oppressive government by keeping a forbidden diary.
The community of Art House Theaters believe in supporting the National Endowment for the Arts and see any attempt to scuttle that program as an attack on free speech and creative expression through entertainment. This event provides a chance for communities around the country to show their unity and have their voices heard.
The event screening will be followed by a discussion from Project Look Sharp, a media literacy initiative of Ithaca College that develops and provides lesson plans, media materials, training, and support for the effective integration of media literacy with critical thinking into classroom curricula at all education levels. |
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch I Am Not Your Negro and Moonlight. They both play their last shows THIS Thursday, March 30th. |
