Greetings Cinemapolitans!

I'm not sure if March is coming in like a lion or a lamb, but one thing's for sure—new movies keep coming in. This weekend brings TWO openers to our screens:
  • The hordes of cats that call the streets of Istanbul home star in the heartwarming documentary, Kedi. Turkish-born filmmaker Ceyda Torun puts her unique spin on the ancient city, showcasing a symbiotic relationship between its human and feline denizens. Variety's Joe Leydon calls it a "splendidly graceful and quietly magical documentary."

  • Indian director Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) makes his English language debut with a splendid adaption of the Julian Barnes novel, The Sense of an Ending. A rumination on how time distorts memory, it follows Tony, a would-be writer, as he tries to unpack the story of a failed romance from his youth. The result is what Variety's Peter Debruge calls a film that "seems almost frustratingly uninterested in establishing, much less solving, the riddles at its core...in fact, it's merely uninterested in pandering to those who lack the patience to appreciate its nuances."
Also in the coming week, we welcome a few special event screenings:

A Shaw classic! Gemma Arterton is Joan of Arc in Saint Joan, broadcast live from the Donmar Warehouse. Bernard Shaw’s classic play follows the life and trial of a young country girl who declares a bloody mission to drive the English from France. Saint Joan screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, March 16th at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, March 18th at 1:30 pm.

Friday, March 17 at 9:30 pm

Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik are back for their monthly installment of genre mayhem. This month brings director Mike Mendez's demon-hunting romp, Don't Kill It. Don't miss the surprisingly nuanced performance from DOLPH LUNDGREN in this hilariously gory supernatural action flick. ONE NIGHT ONLY - Friday, March 17th at 9:30 pm.

The Family Classics Picture Show continues its 3rd year on Sunday, March 19th at 2pm with a screening of three great silent shortsThe Champion, One Week, and The Red Balloon.
Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family. The Family Classics Picture Show at Cinemapolis is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose.
Wednesday, March 22 at 7 pm

As part of their Centennial Celebration, Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes presents WONDER WOMEN! Panel discussion to follow the screening, featuring Ithaca College Professors Katharine Kittredge and Chrissy Guest, along with comic creator Ten Van Winkle.

While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch Julieta, The Lure, Neruda, and A United Kingdom They all play their last shows THIS Thursday, March 16th.
 See you at the movies!
