| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| For the unofficial end of Summer, we add TWO new openers this Friday:
- Award-winning documentarian Crystal Moselle (The Wolfpack) turns to narrative film for her latest, Skate Kitchen. In it, she follows the exploits of a group female skateboarders as they live and ride along Manhatten's Lower East Side. Anne Hornaday of the Washington Post say it "conveys the simple, exhilarating thrill of daring to claim social space, and proceeding to occupy it, with defiance and ecstatic grace."
- Based on the best selling book by Andrew Solomon, Far from the Tree is a "Certified Fresh" and inspiring documentary that delves into the relationships between parents and their children who veer from what is considered "normal." Noel Murray of the LA Times calls it "a powerful movie about human nature and how no matter where we end up — and who we end up with — we wake up each day and adjust." Don't miss this special limited engagement!
The days ahead also include some special screenings, including a one time show THIS WEDNESDAY: |

The Ithaca Aviation Heritage Foundation invites you to join them for a Tommy’s Centennial Flight Fundraiser! They’ll be screening “A Romance of the Air,” the 1918 silent film set during World World I starring their beloved Tommy plane. Wharton Studios described the film as, “Brave heroes and heroins! Despicable spies! A war hero falsely accused…and sentenced to death! How will it all end?”
Directly following the film, they’ll have a Q&A session with one of the original founders of the Ithaca Aviation Heritage Foundation (IAHF) organization. They’ll talk about the history of the Tommy Comes Home Project, future plans for Tommy, and exciting details about the upcoming Centennial Flight!
All proceeds from the night goes towards the project and Tommy’s Centennial Flight event which is FREE on Saturday, September 29.
