Greetings, Cinemapolitans,

Month two of our PRIVATE MOVIE PARTIES is in full swing, with a few slots still available for this weekend. A birthday, a date, or just a Thursday — after a year away, any occasion is a great reason to come back to the movies.

Also this weekend, some new chances to support Cinemapolis from the comfort of home. We're adding three new features PLUS a chance to catch opera from the Met to our Virtual Cinema platform.

And speaking of virtual - FLEFF is 100% virtual this year, and the final week of programming is live on our platform NOW. Catch a movie on your own schedule, then register to take part in discussions all weekend!

As always, the full listing of all current and upcoming virtual films, including those titles ending tomorrow, can be found on our Virtual Cinema page.

MAŁNI—TOWARDS THE OCEAN, TOWARDS THE SHORE

NY TIMES Critic’s Pick!

“An essential portrait of contemporary Indigenous life. Refreshingly centers the Native perspective, and beckons audiences onto its wavelength by tapping into something more intuitive, the stuff of dreams.”

A poetic, experimental debut feature circling the origin of the death myth from the Chinookan people in the Pacific Northwest, małni – towards the ocean, towards the shorefollows two people as they wander through their surrounding nature, the spirit world, and something much deeper inside. At its center are Sweetwater Sahme and Jordan Mercier, who take separate paths contemplating their afterlife, rebirth, and death. Probing questions about humanity’s place on earth and other worlds, Sky Hopinka’s film will have audiences thinking (and dreaming) about it long after.
