Greetings Cinemapolitans!
In addition to two exciting new films arriving on Friday, TONIGHT we're welcoming back our friends from the Finger Lakes Independence Center (a/k/a FLiC) for a celebration of the 32nd Anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The ADA was a groundbreaking bill that provided equal opportunities and accommodations for people with disabilities to fully participate in everyday life. To commemorate this historic event, FLiC is hosting a FREE screening of Deaf Jam tonight at 7 pm.
Deaf Jam is director Judy Lieff’s enthralling documentation of deaf teen Aneta’s bold journey into the spoken word slam scene. In a wondrous twist, Aneta, an Israeli immigrant living in the Queens section of New York City, eventually meets Tahani, a hearing Palestinian slam poet. The two women embark on a collaboration creating a new form of slam poetry that speaks to both the hearing and the Deaf.
Meanwhile, it's another weekend of premieres with new films on the way, so get in soon to catch Elvis and Everything Everywhere All At Once. They have their final screenings on Thursday, July 28! |
