Easter only began with Easter Sunday? |
The liturgical season of Easter begins with the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, and doesn't conclude until Pentecost Sunday, Curious what occurred in the early Church during those days? |
On Easter morning, after the women found Christ's tomb empty, they went to tell the others. The disciples were hidden in an upper room for fear of those who put Jesus to death when Christ appeared in their midst. |
Jesus instructed the Apostles to make disciples of all nations, to preach and baptize everywhere, and assured them of his presence always. |
Forty days after Easter, Jesus Ascended into Heaven, leaving the Apostles with the promise of the Holy Spirit who would come and empower them. |
After praying in an upper room, together with Mary the Apostles received the Holy Spirit nine days after the Ascension. The Holy Spirit strengthened them to proclaim the Gospel, and enabled them to speak in tongues so that all could understand. |
Peter proclaimed the Good News to the crowds in Jerusalem, who each understood him in their own language. Those who accepted his words were baptized, and about 3,000 of the crowd became Christians that day. |
Even after Easter Mass this Sunday, |
Don't forget to celebrate the entire Easter season this year, and rejoice in the resurrection for weeks to come. |
