During the Middle Ages, people turned to stained glass windows and tapestries to teach the story of the Bible. Most were illiterate, however they could be taught through symbols. These symbols told the story of King David and his family tree, the prophecies of Isaiah, and other Old Testament accounts which pointed towards the birth of the long awaited Messiah.
Today, the Jesse Tree is used by the family to prepare everyone for the coming of Christ. Each day during advent, you gather to hang a new symbol on your tree, and read a short reflection on it. This beautiful devotion done with you and your loved ones truly makes you slow down and prepare for Christmas. It's simple and only takes a few minutes each day!
