Winter warmers, new starters, and returning staff members

This has been another big year for Carbon Co-op. We have had many new staff members join the team, and other staff members returning after periods of leave. We have been lucky enough to welcome Lorenza Casini, Kat Wong, Ellis Barnwell, and Natalie Merrick to team this year, who are making a massive impact across a number of different projects.

We have also welcomed back Sophie Norton, Aneaka Kellay, and Laura Williams from parental leave, so the office is feeling very busy right now.

As we go into 2024, we are hoping to continue our success and make some major impacts on domestic carbon emissions various projects set to tackle home energy use. So make sure to look out for more news from us!

Energise Manchester Updates

Energise Manchester is an energy advice project designed to help residents in South Manchester keep their homes warm and healthy this winter, alongside thinking about longer term changes they can make to their home to improve energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions. The project is for residents of the following wards:

  • Whalley Range

  • Moss Side

  • Rusholme

  • Levenshulme

  • Longsight

Over the start of 2024 we'll be hosting a number of free community workshops on topics such as:

  • DIY Draughtproofing

  • Tackling Damp and Mould

  • Heating controls

We're also gearing up to launch a Home Retrofit Pioneers scheme to help take householders through the process of home for retrofit upgrades, including assessments, help with finding contractors, and more.

Sign up for our mailing list to stay up to date with all the events and opportunities we'll be running as part of Energise.

Join the Carbon Co-op Board!

Could you help tackle climate change whilst being part of an inspiring and unique community energy organisation?

Carbon Co-op's Annual General Meeting is approaching and we are recruiting new board members. Board members are elected by the membership, from the membership, so if you'd like to stand you need to be a current member or intend to join the membership.

We're not just looking for board members, if you're curious you can become an observer and attend meetings to get a feel for what's involved before joining at a later date. Board membership involves attending six, 2 hour meetings a year, in person or by video call.

To apply complete this form by 5pm Monday 22nd January 2024. To find out more about the role email: james@carbon.coop.

EcoHome Lab: HEMS 2.0

Carbon Co-op's Home Energy Management System (HEMS) is a fleet-managed device that controls high-load devices in the home in response to OpenADR signals from our PowerShaper Flex service. We've now reached the end of REScoop VPP - a 3 year project testing the system in the houses of energy co-operative members in Belgium, Spain, Germany, France and the UK.

With the end of project, we are free to revisit the tech stack and our aspirations for device control to support domestic flexibility.

Join us at 6 pm on Thursday the 11th of January to learn more.
