2024 Annual General Meeting, job opportunities, and research studies

We are excited to invite you to our Annual General Meeting on the evening of March 26 at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester and online. The event will feature a celebratory meal and panel discussion and provide an opportunity for members & guests to hear about our work, meet other members and share their views. We hope to see you all there!

Following on from welcoming new staff to the team in December, we have also been joined by Elaine Baker and Sophia Godfrey, who started with Carbon Co-op towards the end of last year, but were accidentally left off our introductions in December.

We also have fantastic opportunities for people seeking to join our growing team. Recruitment is currently open for an Engagement Officer (closing at the end of February), and a Project Manager (closing 15th March). So if you want to be the next to join our team, make sure to get your applications in soon!

We are also looking for households with solar panels to participate in a research study in collaboration with University College London. Participants will be asked to take part in a workshop in Greater Manchester and will receive £50 for their time. Find out more about the study below.

Carbon Co-op AGM 2024

Have solar panels? Interested in battery storage? Join our study!

We invite members and guests to join us for our annual in person / hybrid AGM and panel discussion.

We will re-cap of Carbon Co-op's work in tackling climate change through collective action and highlight the progress made over the last few years and the plans and challenges ahead.

Come along to hear about our work, offer your views and meet other members. The event features a celebratory meal and a panel discussion.

Solar Research Study

Have solar panels? Interested in battery storage? Join our study!

University College London and Carbon Co-op are running a study exploring how households with their own solar panels might work to share a battery, to help minimise costs and maximise the positive environmental impact.

Much of our response to climate change has involved calling on people and households to change their personal behaviour. The potential for more collective solutions remains under-explored and poorly understood. We are interested in investigating the impacts of shared batteries within small-scale energy communities.

To do so, we are looking for participants who have solar panels and a working smart meter, compatible with our PowerShaper Monitor system which allows you to access your smart meter data through our dashboard, and who are willing to join a workshop in Greater Manchester where we simulate a shared battery, and use data from your solar panels to explore different possibilities for how such a battery might be used and impact on your energy consumption.

Eligible participants who are not yet PowerShaper Monitor users will be given a free PowerShaper Monitor subscription, allowing them to access their smart meter, and carbon consumption data directly through our dashboard.

Participants will also be given £50 for their time.

EcoHome Lab: Using CO2 data to quantify ventilation rate

We are extremely pleased to be joined by Dr. Jess Few (UCL) and Trystan Lea (Open Energy Monitor) to discuss the potential of CO2 sensing to quantify ventilation rates in domestic properties.

In our regular monthly slot - every second Thursday of the month - EHL is a hangout for people taking control of their home energy usage and generation. We use open-source hardware and software to gain a better understanding of energy in our homes, how to make the best use of the energy we generate and reduce energy wasted.

Addressing America’s Energy Inequities

An excellent podcast on Energy Justice, featuring Shalanda Baker the director of the Office of Energy Justice and Equity in the U.S. Department of Energy, and the secretarial advisor on equity, which includes a really handy definition of Energy Justice.
