Battalion Update | SMaj. Hawley
As the weeks tick by and the training continues, the guys are doing very well in applying themselves to not only their classes and assignments but also the corporate life of Battalion and the flexibility it requires. As you all know, living in close quarters often brings with it claims on personal time and areas for the benefit, growth, and encouragement of the team. It has been encouraging to see the men applying themselves and in general enjoying their time here in the Battalion.

Leadership class is consistently chipping away with their studies. They spend lots of time in their study as their foursome, working on what often feels to them as mountains of homework, doing their reading assignments, writing their papers, and laughing and encouraging each other along the way.

ERT finished their week of Structural Fire Fighting with no problems and much enjoyment even though at times they probably thought they might melt into mere puddles of who they were as they worked in 90+ degree Texas weather, all bundled up in their cozy, highly insulated, bunker gear.

Looking ahead, ERT will be headed out for the next month or so, starting out with a deployment later this week to Wisconsin. Then almost immediately upon their return from deployment they will head off for their dive trip to Miami. Then to top things off, on their way back from Miami the plan is to again do a week of deployment before coming back to campus.

In our continued study of the Gospel, we just looked at the exclusivity God calls us [the Church] to as His bride. God has loved us, called us to Himself, for Himself, and then lavished all His good gifts on us. But we are so easily prone to take those good gifts in themselves and our affections become fixed on the gifts and we forget the Giver. But God always remains faithful and calls us back to Him in love.

The question we were left with to evaluate our lives was this, “What things in my life are drawing my affections away from Christ and am I being satisfied in Him?” or “What is distracting me from wholehearted pursuit of God, or cooling the fire of passion for Him?”
