| Leadership Corner | Maj. Boulden Leadership is relational, therefore, it is inherently communicational. How we communicate with our teams is vital to our success. Communication failures can be costly. Most of the issues we have had to deal with this last year can be chalked up to poor communication in some way or another. Here are four communication misses to consider: 1) Not being clear. This is often the result of half-formed ideas or processes. Create space to clarify your thinking. 2) Not being candid. We don’t set out to be dishonest, but niceness can undermine communication. Lack of candor hurts teams. It’s possible to be candid and kind, but don’t abandon candor to be nice. 3) Not having rhythms for communication. We all hate unnecessary meetings, but progress checkpoints are necessary. Leaders should consider an annual all-team meeting, quarterly and weekly team meetings. 4) Not leveraging cascading communication. Not everyone should have access to the same information at the same time, but you also don’t want to leave anyone behind. Inform people of changes based on their level of importance. |
| Basic Training: Week Two
One week down and 7 to go! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us this last Monday evening. It was very much appreciated. The men have adjusted well to life in Basic Training and moving into this week they will advance in both their ropework skills and land navigation skills. Be in specific prayer for the men as we will be on our 3-Hour Hike this Friday. Just a friendly reminder to acknowledge our road barriers that are up. This is both for your safety and the safety of our men in training. Thank you again for all your prayers and support during this adventure.
