| | Alentejo, Portugal - This wood-aged red is rich while also elegantly perfumed. It boasts decadent black-currant and oak tones, with chocolate flavors that vie with the fruit. It is still dry and firm at the end, though it is ready to enjoy now. ROGER VOSS - WineEnthusiast | | | Isole E Olena Chianti Classico Tuscany, Italy - This is a really authentic and beautiful Chianti Classico, offering cherries, orange peel and light undertones of nuts and bark. It's medium-bodied, very polished and integrated with a fresh, juicy finish. Drink now [till 2030+]. James Suckling 93 pts. Aug. 11, 2021 | | | Pasanau Ceps Nous Priorat Priorat, Spain - Aged 6 months in French and American barriques. Concentrated and voluptuous ripe fruit is complemented by strong minerality and wood spice on the nose and finish. The Pasanaus are perennial growers in La Morera, the highest municipality of Priorat, with vineyards at over 2,400 feet elevation abutting the sheer rock wall of the Sierra de Montsant. Gravelly scree eroded from the cliffs covers the underlying llicorella slate, together with the elevation creating a less Mediterranean microclimate relative to the region as a whole. Blend: 77% Garnacha, 16% Mazuelo, 7% Syrah | | | Piedmont, Italy - Perfectly in line with your expectations for the vintage, the Mauro Molino 2017 Barolo represents a blend of fruit from Annunziata and Berri in La Morra and Perno in Monforte d'Alba. The wine is softly textured and silky to the palate, and it shows steady aromatic intensity with light cherry fruit, followed by dried herb and crushed flowers. There is a spot of tart cherry that is underlined by the natural freshness of the grape. Wine Advocate 93 pts. | | | Tuscany, Italy - Displays a vibrant purple-red color. Its rich, intense bouquet releases black cherry and wild berry, enriched with fascinating notes of pungent spice. The palate is smooth, with fine-grained tannins. | | | Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone, France - The base cuvée from this terrific producer, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape has a relatively modern style in its black raspberry and cassis-driven fruits as well as subtle hints of background oak, vanilla, scorched earth, and white flowers. Beautiful on the palate as well, with medium to full-bodied richness and a seamless, elegant texture, it's very much in the style of this charming, front end-loaded vintage, and while it's already hard to resist, I suspect it's going to drink nicely for 10-12 years. This cuvee is 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre, aged 14 months in barrels, 50% being new. Jeb Dunnuck 91 pts. | | |
