#WeChooseReuse Signature Handover

The time has finally arrived! In November, the European Commission will release its proposal on the revision of the Packaging & Packaging Waste Directive: the EU legislation that will set conditions for packaging and packaging waste in the EU market.

#WeChooseReuse has collected signatures from more than 100,000 individuals, 165 NGOs, 295 businesses, and 34 municipalities who believe in a reuse future. To mark the ending of the campaign and to hand over these signatures to the EU, #WeChooseReuse will stage an action outside of the European Parliament on 12th October 2022. This action will engage decision-makers and passers-by to show what a future of reuse in Europe can look like if the #WeChooseReuse demands are reflected in the revision of the PPWD. Change is wanted, possible and already happening, and EU decision-makers must further push the transition to reuse.

The action will lead up to the handover of signatures from the campaign to Vice President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, where we will reiterate our call for ambitious actions to reduce packaging, waste and plastic pollution.

Show your #WeChooseReuse support on the day of the action and handover!

Help us amplify the action and signature handover on the 12th October 2022. Check out our social media and online activation toolkit with posts that can be shared throughout today, calling on decision-makers to set ambitious legislation in the run-up to the PPWD revision.

Share your feedback on the new Reuse Portal

The World Economic Forum, together with UNEP and WWF, is launching a new Reuse Portal - an open collaborative platform that will provide a digital space for sharing resources and tools related to reuse solutions from around the world.

The portal will also offer a community-building opportunity for individuals and organisations to learn about reuse and share events and learnings. The website is currently in a testing phase, but feel free to browse through their ‘Knowledge’ section to get inspired by initiatives on reuse from all around the world.

Launch of new platform: PLANET REUSE

A new online platform PLANET REUSE has officially launched. It is the first platform of its kind to connect and bring together professionals working on the topic of reuse and reusable packaging solutions in Europe. For reusable packaging system operators, suppliers and service providers, FMCG brands and retailers AND reuse networks, this platform aims to facilitate the transition to reuse.

“I am very happy to support this great initiative that is PLANET REUSE for it is filling an important gap in the awakening of a European reuse ecosystem that ZWE, DUH, #breakfreefromplastic and others have been actively calling for. We now have a convenient and good looking platform which offers a scalable and one stop solution to help boost the potential of local initiatives and further connect the great minds behind the ongoing reuse revolution.” - Nathan Dufour, Consumption & Production Programme Coordinator, Zero Waste Europe

Updates from #ZeroWasteCities

Take a #ZeroWasteCity Study Tour

Zero Waste Europe is launching its first Study Tour in three years and returning to the birthplace of the European zero waste movement.

#ZeroWasteCities will be in Milan and Treviso this November to visit and learn about some of Europe’s best zero waste practices.

This is your chance to get hands-on experience on what is required to deliver highly effective separate collection and recycling systems at the local level, as well as what effective reuse policies look like in both urban and rural areas.

What does the energy crisis mean for zero waste?

A new series of webinars on what the energy crisis means for zero waste will begin from October.

Can the circular economy and zero waste measures help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels?

Join Zero Waste Europe's first webinar 6th October 2022 2:00 PM (CET) and hear from Delphine Lévi Alvarès (#breakfreefromplastic) and Dominic Hogg (Equanimator).

MiZAs first Zero Waste Certified City in Italy has been announced! The municipality of Capannori gained their accreditation after implementing a wide range of waste prevention measures, and a dedicated strategy for reuse and recycling that engages with the local community.
