China bans the bag!

Plastic bags will be banned in all of China’s major cities by the end of 2020 and in all cities and towns in 2022!

China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment which issued the policy aims to gradually limit the production, use, and sale of single-use plastic items — from plastic bags to delivery packages. In an interview, #breakfreefromplastic changemaker Mao Da of the China Zero Waste Alliance welcomed the move. However, he cautioned against encouraging individuals to use biodegradable plastic since it would only hurt the environment in the long run.

“Replacing nonbiodegradable plastics with biodegradable ones may cause misuse and a new type of pollution, as well as increased pressure on waste-recycling systems.” - #breakfreefromplastic Steering Committee member Mao Da, China Zero Waste Alliance
