Groundbreaking Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act is Introduced in the US Congress

Thanks to the input and support of Break Free From Plastic members in the US, the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act of 2020 was introduced on February 11th in the US Congress. This bill –sponsored by Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.), Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.) and others– is the most comprehensive legislation in the country to address the plastic pollution crisis focused on corporate accountability!

Writing the new story of plastic: Brussels hackathon

The Rethink Plastic alliance of #breakfreefromplastic members working on European policy held a ‘hackathon’ event in Brussels on Wednesday, February 19th. The event brought together experts and activists to develop new solutions around prevention and reuse. 


Zero Waste France expose ‘fake reusables’

Zero Waste France have launched a campaign to expose corporations attempting to undermine single-use plastic bans by branding products as ‘reusable’. As part of their work they have uncovered lots of ‘fake reusables’ including plastic plates and cups which fall apart after only a few uses. 



Green Army International’s National Conference of Cities for Zero Waste 2020

In Kerala, India, #breakfreefromplastic member Green Army International co-organized a three-day “National Conference of Cities for Zero Waste”. The event served as a platform for advocates to share their insights and experiences on how communities can achieve the Zero Waste goals.
