Subject: Brand audit data just officially became peer-reviewed published science! 🙌

Dear #BrandAudit champion,

Congratulations, you just contributed to a huge win! 🎉

After two years of preparations, this week a new peer-reviewed research paper titled Global Producer Responsibility for Plastic Pollution, co-written by over a dozen scientists from the BFFP movement, was published in the prestigious Science Advances academic journal. This study analyzed our 5 year BFFP brand audit database using some of the most rigorous scientific data analysis tools available. The results confirm what activists and communities impacted by plastic pollution have been saying for years: the more plastic packaging FMCG companies use, the more plastic pollution is found in the environment. As world leaders negotiate a Global Plastics Treaty this week at INC-4, this research serves as a tool to support a high-ambition legally binding treaty that includes provisions on corporate accountability, prioritizing plastic production reduction measures, and promoting reuse and refill systems.

This important research study would not have been possible without the commitment and hard work of every single brand audit participant over the years who championed this effort around the world. Thank you for your leadership mobilizing your community to record this data! You are making history with us by spotlighting the true sources of plastic pollution and calling for corporate accountability.
