A new investigation by Changing Markets and #breakfreefromplastic reveals the fake solutions put forth by Spain’s biggest plastic polluters as they fight against legislation that would impact their business. Spain should implement a deposit return system that would create between 11-38 times more jobs than any other waste management option.

UN Experts Call for an End to Petrochemical Expansion in “Cancer Alley”

 

Experts with the UN Human Rights Council have denounced human rights abuses in the U.S. region known as Cancer Alley: “This form of environmental racism poses serious and disproportionate threats to the enjoyment of several human rights of its largely African American residents, including the right to equality and non-discrimination, the right to life, the right to health, right to an adequate standard of living and cultural rights.”

In response to the experts highlighting the dangers of the Formosa Plastics complex currently being planned in St. James Parish, Louisiana, #breakfreefromplastic changemaker Jane Patton with the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) urges immediate government action.

Vietnam’s Top 10 Corporate Plastic Polluters revealed!

 

Since 2018, member organizations of the Vietnam Zero Waste Alliance have been auditing waste from six coastal areas. #breakfreefromplastic changemakers in Vietnam have successfully sorted 16,730 kg of wastes, including 55,000 branded pieces of plastics.


In a webinar last week, they have revealed the top ten plastic polluting companies, some of which have also appeared in our global brand audits.

A new report by the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) reveals that zero waste systems create more than 200 times more jobs than incinerators and landfills!


The series of global studies found that reuse and refill strategies score the highest on environmental benefits, while also creating the most jobs of any waste management approach.

Every week for seven years now, #breakfreefromplastic member Trash Hero World brings volunteers to pick up waste in beaches, rivers, and other public places. They admit though that even with a million more volunteers, there will always be too much to clean up. But they continue to persist because they believe that this is a gateway for people to start demanding for better solutions like going zero waste.
