Sharon Lavigne named one of Forbes 50 over 50 | BFFP-US Core Member and environmental justice superstar Sharon Lavigne was recently named in Forbes first-ever “50 Over 50” list for women, “leading the way in making an impact.”
In her profile listing, Ms. Lavigne is celebrated for her grassroots environmental justice work where she has mobilized her community, St. James Parish, Louisiana, in opposing a plastics production facility. In doing so, she founded RISE St. James, a group integral to fighting the plastics and petrochemical buildout of USA’s gulf south region. So far her work has proven integral to protecting St. James Parish and getting plans for the facility withdrawn. India’s new EPR guidelines lacking | | India pushes to hold corporations accountable for the plastics they generate, but the draft for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines released in the last quarter of 2021 has drawn criticism.
In an article on The Hindu, BFFP Asia Pacific's Satyarupa Shekhar and Siddharth Singh of the Center for Science and Environment, Delhi said, "government should redo the consultation process for the draft guidelines and involve informal workers. The scope of plastics covered by the guidelines could be altered to exclude those plastics which are already efficiently recycled and to include other plastic and multi-material items… " | | |
