The company TerraCycle claims it can recycle plastic products that are otherwise considered unrecyclable, including old cigarette butts, contact lens cases, single-use cups, and other “throwaway” packaging. Corporate partners like Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, and L’Oreal tell consumers that their packaging is recyclable through TerraCycle, but a new lawsuit alleges this is not true.
“On one hand, I want to say it’s well intentioned. But on the other hand, I think it gives excuses for large corporations to keep using plastics,” said Judith Enck, President of Beyond Plastics.
