ZERO WASTE CITIES ARE NOT A MYTH! It’s totally possible as shown by model and emerging Zero Waste communities in the Asia-Pacific region. In Week 3 of #ZeroWasteMonth2021, we put the spotlight on some of them and learn about the results they have seen by switching to Zero Waste systems! 💚


Shoutout to #breakfreefromplastic members who have made some of these Zero Waste cities possible: YPBB Bandung in Indonesia, Mother Earth Foundation in the Philippines, and Consumers Association in Penang under the ZW Cities Collaboration coordinated by GAIA Asia-Pacific and other members in Asia-Pacific.

188 Environmental Groups Call for an End to Single-Use

Products

 

As government representatives from 193 countries prepare to discuss “Strengthening Actions for Nature,” 188 environmental groups from around the world are calling on them to change the systems that support production of polluting single-use products. 


On Wednesday, the environmental groups issued a joint position, “From Single-Use to Systems Change”, to highlight the massive impact that disposable products are having on the natural environment, wildlife, human health, and vulnerable communities.

Pushing Back Against Coca-Cola’s False Solutions

 

Coca-Cola’s announcement about rolling out 100% recycled plastic bottles for select brands in some U.S. states represents a false solution to the plastic pollution crisis. #breakfreefromplastic changemakers with Greenpeace USA, U.S. PIRG and others are already poking holes in this greenwashing effort. 

 

Our global Brand Audit Report recently named Coca-Cola the world’s worst plastic polluter for the third year in a row. The company produces over 100 billion plastic bottles each year, and we are confident that producing even more, smaller plastic bottles is not the best way forward.
