Athletes Call for Increased Reusable Packaging Ahead of Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Over 100 sports organizations and elite athletes, including Olympians, urged Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners to curb plastic pollution by increasing the use of reusable packaging. In the letter, led by organizations Sailors for the Sea Powered by Oceana and EcoAthletes, the signatories stress the need for a systemic shift aways from single-use plastic production and for companies such as the Official Partner of the Olympics, Coca-Cola, to increasingly make reuse a viable option for customers around the world.

Venues Across France Fail to Provide Legally Required Water Refill Points in Paris

With the Olympic Games just around the corner and with claims of setting new, high standards of sustainability, #BreakFreeFromPlastic member, No Plastic In My Sea has reported a shortage of water refill points in public venues, despite laws mandating their availability. Only 40% of key locations, such as train stations and airports, comply with laws such as the AGEC law, which aims to reduce plastic bottle use as Paris gears up for summer tourists and athletes.

Traditional Alternatives to Plastic in Latin America

We have lived and can live without single-use plastics. In Latin America we do not need to go back to the past to find traditional alternatives to plastic, we have many options that are still in use and that we use in our daily lives. In our countries, we have a series of articles made from vegetable fibers, clay, wood, etc. and although we know them by different names, they are all part of our regional cultural plastic-free heritage.
