The followers are brainwashed into making the gas pedal their go-to tool. Like zealots they mock others that if you're not hitting your goals because you're not hitting the gas pedal hard enough. Still not making progress? Bury that gas pedal to the floor they will tell you.

If you're going to hit the gas pedal hard, you better have good steering and know when to hit the brakes!

And if you don't have good steering and brakes, then it's only a matter of time before you crash and burn.

What separates the winners from the losers on the race track is NOT the gas peddle. Everyone puts the gas peddle to the floor on the straight away. But it's how you apply the steering and brakes in the turns that separates the winners from the losers.
