Hey Friend,
Sports Nutrition - VS - Bodybuilding Nutrition... There's a HUGE difference between the two and how you should eat will vary greatly depending on your goals and objectives.
Eating for bodybuilding - especially competitive bodybuilding (i.e. pre-contest cutting diets) is a very unique and temporary situation. Bodybuilders will purposely deprive themselves and "suffer it out" for months on end to get as lean as possible so they can look good on stage, in photos, etc. But this is not sustainable and very often their health and exercise performance suffers in the process. It's not uncommon for bodybuilders to lose strength and feel weaker the closer they get to "peak" competition shape. Many of them are literally running on will power and lots of stimulants like caffeine, and pre-workout energy drinks just to have enough energy to make it through the day. It's a weird sport in that the better the bodybuilder looks (i.e. the leaner and more ripped they get) the worse they usually feel and the more their exercise performance suffers.
Eating for athletics and sports performance is totally different. Instead of trying to deprive the body (to get as lean as humanly possible) the focus is on fueling it for peak performance. This will involve higher calories and eating to meet your energy demands. Just like a high performance sports car isn't going to run properly without enough of the right fuel - neither with a high performance athlete.
